The Dental Department of Xiamen University Zhongshan Hospital is a professional institution for dental treatment, dental education and research. The department currently consists of 28 members, including 3 chief physician, 4 associate chief physician; 2 of which hold doctor’s degree and 13 of which hold master’s degree.

In accordance with the classification of international dental disciplines, five professional treatment departments are established, which includes the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery (ward of 12 beds), oral medicine (Cariology and Endodontology, Periodontology, Pediatric Dentistry, disease of oral mucosa), oral prosthodontics, oral orthodontic, oral implantology. Oral and maxillofacial surgery professional level ranks first in Xiamen, and the annual amount of diagnosis and treatment is more than 300 cases. Oral implantology has become one of the most standardized and professional departments in Fujian province.

As one of the first National Standardized Training Bases, the department takes charge of the dental education tasks of medical college of Xiamen University and Xiamen Medical College.

The department focuses on discipline construction and development , following the frontier knowledge and technology. Long-term cooperative relations have been established with Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, Peking University Hospital of Stomatology to strengthen technical exchanges and improve the expertise. Since 2001, the department has undertaken 5 research projects and published dozens of papers.
