The Neurology Department of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Xiamen University is Xiamen Municipal Key Discipline. Neurology Department is a medical care, teaching and research three-in-one department. It has 7 secondary units: 2 wardswith 100 beds, 1 CCUwith 10 beds, 1 cerebrovascular intervention centre, 3 noninvasive examinationcentres (TCD，Electrophysiology, Psychological evaluation).Backed by strong technological strength, the department has six chief physicians, six deputy chief physicians, 14 doctors and 8 masters. It also has two tutors of master candidates and offers courses and training to students and research fellows of Xiamen University, Fujian Medical University, Fujian University of Chinese Medicine.
Through a variety of individualized treatments including medication, interventional therapies and surgeries, we have prominent advantages in treating diseases such as cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, nerve immune disease, intracranial infection, neuromuscular disease, peripheral neuropathy disease. The patient-first value has been constantly practiced in the Neurology Department. Patients can choose to receive treatment on an all-year-round basis (no-holiday) with the registration paper issued by the Neurology Department. The outpatient clinics have four categories in Neurology Department: general, emergency, expert and special disease outpatient clinics. The epilepsy clinic, neurosis clinic, memory disorders clinic, Parkinson clinic, headache clinic and stroke prevention clinic fill the gaps in Xiamen city. About 110 to 120 thousand outpatient services are provided each year, and over 3500 cases in inpatient department with110 beds. More than 300 cases of cerebrovascular interventional operation of various types were conducted every year on average.
The Department has committed itself to the long-term clinical teaching and training for Xiamen University. It is exclusively qualified for mater education for Xiamen University, Fujian Medical University, Fujian University of Chinese Medicine. The Department has undertaken many research projects funded by Natural Science Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of Fujian province, Science Foundation of Xiamen Municipal. We have published more than 20 SCI papers.
