Clinical Laboratory Center is entitled with Xiamen Key Laboratory. It is also the center of Quality Control of Clinical Laboratory, and Institute of Infectious Diseases of Xiamen University. In 2011, our department firstly acquired ISO 15189 accreditation which specifies requirements for quality and competence in medical laboratories with the continuous improvement and capacity development by all staff. In addition, our department has also qualified as the part of China Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System, Research Base of Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Research Laboratory on Key Biomedical Reagents and Development of In Vitro Diagnosis funded by 863 Program. As for the clinical teaching, our department undertakes the teaching assignment from multiple universities, including Xiamen University, Fujian Medical University, Xiangya School of Medicine, and Central South University, etc.

Up to 2017, our department has 69 regular employees, among them, 13 are with senior professional title and 35 with medium grade professional title. In the aspect of educational background, seven and 19 of them are entitled with Ph.D and Master’s degree, respectively. Currently, our department possesses one doctoral supervisor and four master supervisors. one employee has qualified as the Provincial Innovative Talent. Two have been awarded with the title of Xiamen Young Talent. One has been granted with Fujian Provincial Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholar.One has been awarded with the title of Top 10 Young Doctors of Xiamen. In total, our department covers 44132 square feet, and consisted with general clinical tests section, biochemistry section, hematology section, immunology section (HIV screening included), microbiology section, and molecular diagnosis section. With the equipment and application of state of art instruments, including full-automatic biochemistry analyzer, hematology analyzer, coagulation analyzer, mass spectrometer, blood culture system, microbial analyzer, flow cytometer and electrochemiluminescence immunoassay analyzer, we are enabled to provide accurate test results.

As for scientific research, our department mainly engaged on the laboratory diagnosis and underlying mechanism of immunological damage of infectious disease, and both the basic and applied research on the cancer diagnosis reagent. Based on the completion of routine work which required from all clinical departments inside the hospital, our department persisted to develop and improve our performance capacity. Since its foundation, our department has accomplished 65 research projects sponsored by national, provincial, and municipal governments (including 14 NSFC programs, one 863 program, one National Innovative Fund ). So far, our department has achieved ten science and technology progress awards, among them, two are awarded by provincial government. In total, 239 research papers have been published, and 44 of them were indexed in SCI. Moreover, our department has applied for 93 national patens, 60 have been approved including 35 national patents for invention, and the remaining 33 are in probation.

Adhering to the principles of “Profession, Dedication, Passion, Innovation”, our department regards clinical routine work, teaching, scientific research, and industrialization as equality. In the process of improvement of infrastructure facilities and internal management, clinical laboratory operated strictly under the guidance of ISO 15189 and committed to facilitate the systematization, standardization and normalization of all procedures. Taking the advantage of state of art instruments, solid methodology and highly trained laboratory staff, our department commits to provide high quality service for our colleagues in clinical departments and general public.
