The Nephrology Department of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Xiamen University was founded in 1992. It is Xiamen Hemodialysis Quality Control Center, and Xiamen planning key disciplines of diabetic nephropathy, National drug clinical trial agency, Xiamen Youth Civilization and Three-division co-management center for chronic kidney disease in Xiamen. Our department is an important medicine, education and research base of kidney diseases. It consists of nephrology wards, blood purification center, nephrology outpatient and clinic, playing a leading role in Fujian province.

Under the leadership of Director Guan Tianjun, the department has 20 full-time physicians, including 4 with senior professional title, 3 with secondary senior professional title, 7 with intermediate professional title, 6 with primary professional title. Among them, 9 with doctoral degree, 9 with master degree, and 20% physicians received overseas education. The department has 60 beds in total. The Blood Purification Center has 86 advanced blood purification machines. The department with nearly 500-hemodialysis patient and with more than 60 thousands times’ dialysis per year, which makes our center becomes the largest blood purification centers in Fujian province.

The Department provides comprehensive resources for diagnosis and treatment of nephrotic syndrome, primary glomerular disease, and secondary glomerular disease, acute and chronic renal failure and vascular access for hemodialysis. The division can do all the operation of kidney disease. In recent year, our department performed many new technology of hemodialysis vascular access, with 6 national patents.

In recent 5 years, the department has published 15 SCI papers, and undertaken 13 projects of NSFC, Provincial and City’s Fund. Our department often invites experts at home and abroad to carry out academic exchanges, and hold several national academic conferences base on its advantages of technology, which set up a good image in Xiamen area.
